Competence Through Competency: Using Competencies to Drive Performance
Using the right selection and performance management processes leads to great things; using the wrong processes leads to disaster. We’ve worked in this space for the last 25 years and observed both situations. Based on this experience we can confidently say that the use of Competencies puts the right people in the right jobs, develops leaders in the right way and creates the basis for a winning workplace Climate. Here we discuss the ‘nose to tail’ use of competencies and why anyone serious about organisational performance can’t work without them. We introduce the GIL research methodology for developing valid competency frameworks and write about our experience in leveraging competencies for maximum performance improvement.
