Structure Model

An example of the output from our partner, Requisite System’s software is shown below.

Requisite Profile

Following interview, data is input into the software and the schematic above is produced. This indicates the enterprise being reviewed is a Level 5 business and the President has five direct reports of which four have been assessed at Level 4 and one remains to be assessed. If this were assessed as a Level 5, it would be colour coded red, which would immediately signify an issue in terms of the President having a role described at the same level as his VP of Marketing reporting to him.

Three of the Level 4 roles have direct reports who are assessed at Level 3. This is a healthy organisation in terms of its mapped structure. The yellow arrows by some of the roles provide ‘click-through’ access to describe the nature of the relationships that prevail between peer roles, i.e. does one have an authority over another, or an audit responsibility or to provide an internal service, advice or guidance.

These structure charts become ‘work-in-progress’ in terms of being able to be used in interactive discussions with managers to devise alternative structures that may overcome identified inefficiencies and help the organisation structure appropriate roles that will enable it to have greater chance of delivering its strategic aims.
